Outsourcing is there to help you and shouldn’t every business and individual aim to get help to make their lives just that little bit easier? In this article we will discuss outsourcing in a business sense as well as on a personal level. It’s something we rarely think about but we all outsource one thing or another in our day-to-day lives.
Resistance to change
C H A N G E – a small six letter word yet this one word seems to have such a huge impact on our day to day lives. As humans we’re definitely creatures of habit and its common for most of us to resist change in any form or fashion. I’ve yet to come across someone who is completely open to change whether big or small, professionally or personal. We can be resistant to change because it makes us feel uncomfortable and nobody likes to revel in discomfort. However in saying this it seems we’re a lot more open to change when it’s to do with our personal lives as opposed to our professional lives. From asking our own clients we know that a few main reasons why people are reluctant to outsource in business is because they are worried about loss of control and a reduction in quality. We’ve become so accustomed to doing things a certain way that when it’s time to make a change, even if that change would be the best, we’ll hesitate and shy away from it.
Outsourcing is a part of our daily lives
I’m sure I’m not the only one who likes to indulge in a good old take away from time to time, and take away’s are a prime example of outsourcing. There are many reasons as to why you would order a take away, but whatever the reason we trust somebody else to prepare and cook our food and then deliver it safely to us. We also expect quality food and a high level of service because let’s face it take away’s not always exactly cheap and cheerful nowadays. So why do we order take away’s? Because it requires minimal effort and saves us time. This got me thinking about other things we outsource in our day to day lives, and the things we require peoples help with to get things done, and free up our time so we can focus on other things that need our attention. The majority of the time we pay other people to do things for us because they can do it better than we can, more quickly and more cost effectively.
I’ve probably got you thinking about what all this has got to do with outsourcing? Well it’s more or less exactly the same process. It got me thinking about how within our personal lives it seems we’re a lot more comfortable delegating jobs, but within our professional lives we’re reluctant to take those steps even though it makes perfect sense.
How to get started with outsourcing?
Outsourcing most definitely is a huge change if you have never done it before. It’s, therefore, important to take the time out and talk to your supplier to make sure you are 100% with everything before moving forward. It’s not something to be rushed. If you are having doubts when it comes to outsourcing why not pick a few year-end account jobs from non-profitable clients, or work of low importance. That way you can iron out any kinks and satisfy yourself that outsourcing the work will work, on stuff that if something goes wrong (which hopefully it won’t) you’re not going to risk losing much.
Making a change, however initially daunting, really can have a successful impact on your business and help to relieve any headaches. So why don’t more of us consider outsourcing, to free up our time? So we can spend it with our friends and family instead of being stuck in the office bogged down with a mountain of work? You wouldn’t think twice about outsourcing your childcare or cleaning.
